Gemini Live app launches on Samsung phones ahead of Pixel 9 launch
Google announced yesterday during the Pixel 9 series announcement that Gemini Live, the advanced version of its Gemini AI smart assistant, will be available on Pixel and Samsung smartphones and tablets, and today Gemini Live has started rolling out Rolling On these phones and tablets. It will only be available to those who have subscribed to the paid version of Gemini.
You can have ongoing conversations with Gemini Live just like you would with a normal person. You can interrupt them while they’re talking to get more information about something and come back to the topic later. Gemini extensions (integrations) with other Google services, such as Calendar, Drive, Gmail, Keep, YouTube, and YouTube Music, aren’t yet available for Gemini Live. They’ll be available in the coming months.
When you activate the Gemini Live app, you’ll see a wave-shaped badge in the bottom right corner with a small shiny icon. Its introduction explains how to use it. You can continue or end the conversation using two dedicated buttons.
The Gemini Live UI is very clean and takes up the entire screen but displays other apps in the background. There are ten voice options in Gemini Live that you can choose from. You can toggle the “Interrupt Live Responses” feature in the app settings. Gemini Live is only available in English, and support for other languages may be launched in the coming months.
In the past few years, Samsung’s AI-powered digital assistant Bixby hasn’t received many new features like Apple’s Siri and Google’s Gemini. However, Samsung has announced that Bixby will get an LLM-powered upgrade later this year. It will make Bixby understand natural language voice commands much better. It could be released with the One UI 7.0 update.
