Google Pixel Fold 2 leaks with a new, detailed rear camera and a longer screen

Following leaked renders of the Pixel 9 series, the Pixel Fold 2 appears to be joining the “prominent camera bump” crew, based on newly leaked images of an early prototype of Google's next foldable device.

Earlier this week, some of the first details of Google's second foldable phone began to emerge. The Pixel Fold 2 is reportedly set to skip a processor generation to use the Tensor G4 chip (to be announced later), which will be paired with up to 16GB of RAM, a first for a Pixel phone.

In a new report from Robot bodyWe got our first look at what will likely be this year's Pixel Fold 2. The most eye-catching detail on the display is the overhauled camera notch, which in the Pixel Fold strip is replaced by a rounded rectangle protruding from the top left corner. . The design is strongly reminiscent of the camera array seen in the first leaks of the Pixel 9 series.

The Pixel Fold 2's camera sensor array appears to be quite similar to what's on the first-generation foldable, but it's just been rearranged. It's also worth noting that the temperature sensor on the Pixel 8 Pro – scheduled to return with the Pixel 9 Pro – is still absent from Google's second fold.

The original Pixel Fold had a small, ultra-wide form factor that was unique among foldable devices. For the sequel, Google appears to be moving in a radically different direction, with a new, much taller aspect ratio that looks very similar to the OnePlus Open. Robot bodyHis source describes him as “more like a square.”

Another immediately noticeable change is the hinge, which now looks almost identical to the one used by OnePlus, at least from what we can see in this image. However, Google's form factor is very rounded around the corners, while OnePlus and Samsung have focused on more squared-off designs.

Considering that this device is still in the prototype stage, we can't take all the visual details for granted. However, Google's use of matte materials for the Pixel Fold 2's hinge — as opposed to the brushed metal on the Fold — helps hide the hinge while the phone is open.

Following last year's Pixel Fold launch pattern, many expect the Pixel Fold 2 to launch in the summer, likely to be unveiled at Google I/O 2024. Meanwhile, the announced use of the Tensor G4 chip has been reported, along with design details that Appearing in the Pixel 9 series seems to indicate that the Pixel Fold 2 may arrive as part of this fall's Made by Google lineup.
