Google releases the third beta version of Android 15 for Pixel devices

After I/O 2024 last month, the Android 15 preview cycle continues today with Beta 3 for Pixel devices.

Android 15 Beta 3 introduces platform stability with APIs (level 35) and system behaviors are finalized. Developers are encouraged to begin “the final testing and development work necessary to ensure that the compatible version of your app will be ready for users in the final release of the ecosystem.”

As previewed at I/O, passkey login is now one step closer to using your fingerprint, facial recognition, or screen lock for apps targeting Android 15. Account details are now on the same authentication sheet.

If this prompt is accidentally ignored, Passkey and other Credential Manager suggestions will appear in the Gboard Suggestions row and username/password drop-down menus:


The following issues have been fixed in Beta 3:

Issues reported by developer

  • Fixed an issue where polling was disabled using setDiscoveryTechnology The method did not disrupt polling. (Issue No. 341196917
  • Fixed an issue that prevented the system share sheet from loading in some cases. (Issue No. 340936670)
  • Fixed an issue that caused the System Settings app to crash when accessing screen saver options. (Issue No. 340917853)
  • Fixed an issue that sometimes caused the screen unlock icon to appear when notifications appeared on the screen. (Issue No. 340923963)
  • Fixed an issue that prevented mobile network security settings from being changed. (Issue No. 335438231)

Other issues have been resolved

  • Fixed an issue in the Android emulator that caused Simpleperf to crash when running CPU profiler.

Android 15 Beta 3 (AP31.240517.022) is available with the June 2024 security patch for Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Tablet, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8, Pixel 8.
