Google held yesterday Annual Hardware EventAnnounces new Pixel smartphones, Pixel Watch, and Pixel Buds.
The company has taken some shots at Apple along the way, attacking it on both the hardware and AI fronts, including one claim that should win an award for pure absurdity…

Google stabs Apple
The Edge The magazine highlighted the points where the company mocked Apple, starting with the fact that Google’s AI features are available in 45 languages.
[Android president Sameer Samat] “Gemini is now available worldwide, well beyond English speakers and a single market,” he said. That last clarification appears to be a direct shot at Apple Intelligence, which has yet to roll out widely and will only be available to English speakers in the US once it launches this fall.
Google has embraced the opportunity of live demos, in contrast to Apple’s shift to pre-recorded keynote presentations, and made sure we knew it.
Google’s Dave Citron took the stage to demonstrate some of Gemini’s AI features, and boldly announced, “By the way, all of our demos today are live demos.”
The danger of this was demonstrated when he had to switch phones after the first one proved unresponsive during a demo.
Google also noted that customers can choose between the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL without sacrificing any features.
They have the same stunning display, sleek design, premium craftsmanship, processing power, and the same Pro Pixel camera.
This appears to be a criticism of the fact that you have to buy the iPhone 15 Pro Max if you want a 5x telephoto camera. The company also compared the night shots taken by each of the company’s flagship models, and the results were noticeably better with the Pixel.
One ridiculous claim
But the most absurd claim Google made was to suggest that it was more protective of your personal data than Apple.
Gemini can handle these types of complex personal queries within Google’s secure cloud without sending any of your personal data to a third-party AI provider you may not know or trust.
Apple has partnered with OpenAI to enable ChatGPT to handle general knowledge queries.
This is of course ridiculous, given that Google makes most of its money by collecting and monetizing personal data.
Apple Intelligence uses on-device processing whenever possible, and its own cloud computing where more processing power is needed. The privacy of this processing can be independently verified, thanks to an “unusual step” in its design.
ChatGPT is only used where access to external knowledge is needed. In these cases, Apple asks for user permission before delivery, and anonymizes these requests before handing them over to OpenAI. Finally, its agreement with the company means that Apple user data cannot be used to train OpenAI models.
