The retired ophthalmologist suing Gwyneth Paltrow was questioned by her legal team on Wednesday about numerous physical activities he engaged in while traveling around the world following a 2016 skiing accident.
Paltrow’s attorneys called 76-year-old Terry Sanderson back on the witness stand in the last hour of their last full day to give witnesses.
They presented several photos as evidence of Sanderson’s travels around the world during cross-examination of the plaintiff whose attorneys claimed he suffered traumatic brain injuries from a crash at the Utah Deer Valley resort that reportedly left him unable to enjoy his hobbies.
Photos and posts filed in court on Facebook showed Sanderson riding a camel in Morocco, hiking to Machu Picchu in Peru, ziplining and biking, hiking with his girlfriend, doing Zumba, playing mini golf, exploring an escape room and more — all after a skiing accident. with Paltrow.
“Have you been to Peru?” Paltrow’s attorney Stephen Owens cross-examined SandersonAccording to the Independent newspaper. Walking the Golden Path? […] Did you make a zipline? […] Did you go to Europe? […] Have you been to the Netherlands three times? […] ride bicycles Do bus tours? “
Sanderson answered yes to every quick succession question.
According to the evidence, the retired doctor has visited the Netherlands three times, Morocco twice, Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Thailand, Peru and Costa Rica all at least once since 2016, the outlet reported.
earlier in the trial, Sanderson’s team had medical expert and family members testify that he could no longer enjoy his normal, active lifestyle due to the injuries he sustained in the accident.
The neuroradiologist said Sanderson showed signs of brain damage that changed his behavior and personality.
His defense said the retired doctor no longer performed many of the activities he liked to do before the accident and struggled to maintain relationships with loved ones.
“Terry was an energetic, high-functioning person,” Dr. Wendell Gibby told jurors last week. “Every day he was doing a lot of things. Group meetings, wine tastings, skiing, volunteer work. After the accident, his condition suddenly deteriorated and many of the activities he loved to do stopped.”
Paltrow’s team also called several experts to testify on Wednesday.
They claimed that Sanderson’s deterioration in cognitive abilities was due to old age, rather than a skiing accident.
They even said that his mind was in decline years before the star crashed.
Upon cross-examination, Sanderson’s attorneys sought to prove that his travels were part of his recovery efforts and his desire to return to his normal routine — which often includes trips across the country and the world.
“Have you always traveled in your life?” asked his client Christine Van Orman’s attorney.
Sanderson said he has, at least since his retirement.
“Have you ever told this jury, or tried to imply in this trial, that you could not travel?”
According to the newspaper “The Independent”, the former doctor replied: “Not at all.”
“Given that time, I was determined to prove that I had no psychological problems,” he told the court. “All I did was stamp it on my record, that this guy is trying too hard.”
Sanderson said that despite the smiling photos he posted on social media, he “struggled” during many of those trips.
“I just couldn’t go on my own anymore, and I found that out the hard way when… [my girlfriend] Robin has decided she no longer loves me after five years,” he added, according to the post.
The former MD claimed Paltrow, 50, was skating recklessly when she hit him from behind — but Paltrow said Sanderson hit her.
Sanderson is seeking $300,000 in damages from the famous actress, who has counterclaimed for $1 in damages plus the cost of her legal fees.
Both sides are expected to present their closing arguments on Thursday. Then, the eight-person jury will begin deliberations.
