The Ukrainian offensive in the Kursk region has its price. For example, this can be seen in armored vehicles, according to American media, in which Ukrainians lose twice as much as defending Russians.
Forbes journalists made this kind of claim. They cite data provided by one of Oryx’s analysts, which shows that in the first nine days of the invasion, the Ukrainians lost at least four tanks and more than 40 armored vehicles of various types. Losses include not only old post-Soviet structures, but also Western equipment. This is the result of the decision to send some elite Ukrainian regiments with equipment from NATO countries into action in Kursk Oblast.
Heavy losses of Ukrainians in the Kursk region
American Stryker transporters are primarily used by Western vehicles attacked by the Russians and, among others, the 80th Air Assault Squadron.
They are equipped with a transport box that can accommodate up to nine soldiers. The armament consists of a 12.7 mm Browning M2 machine gun with a range of about 2 km and a 40 mm Mk 19 grenade launcher. The Stryker is a vehicle with 8×8 drive and a 350 HP engine, due to which it can reach a speed of 90 kmph.

Western equipment falls prey to the Russians
The PT-91 Twardy is a deep modernization of the Soviet T-72. The Ukrainians received several dozen PT-91 Twardi units from Poland and highly praised them, noting that they were better and more durable than the Soviet prototypes. In this case, the most important thing is the ERAWA reactive armor and a better engine.
Challenger 2 destroyed in Kursk region?
The Ukrainians also sent Mortar infantry fighting vehicles, which they received from Germany, to the clashes in the Kursk region. On August 15 this year, Sky News reported that the Ukrainian army was using Great Britain-supplied Challenger 2 tanks in its offensive, and based on these reports, photos were published on social media with the aim of confirming the destruction of such a tank in the Kursk region. However, the photographs are so narrowly framed that they are not irrefutable evidence.
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, only one Challenger 2 has been confirmed destroyed, which happened in September 2023, which was a significant victory for the Russians, since no one was able to remove this tank during military operations. The British machine was distinguished primarily by its multi-layered Sobham/Dorchester armor and 120mm L30A1 rifled gun.
