The wage gap between East and West Germany continued to widen last year — according to new data from the Central Statistical Office, requested by the left in the Bundestag and made available to “RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland”.
According to the data, the average salary gap between East and West Germany among full-time employees in 2022 Total of €13,015 per annum (approx. PLN 57.7 thousand, i.e. approx. PLN 4.8 thousand per month). In the West, the average annual gross salary Euro 58,085in the east – 45,070 Euros (respectively approx. PLN 258 thousand and approx. PLN 200 thousand).

In 2021, the wage gap was smaller and amounted to EUR 12,173 to the disadvantage of East Germans. In 2020, the difference between East and West Germany in this figure was EUR 11,967, so it was even smaller.
How much can you earn in Germany? Even 21,000 euros difference
“No East German state has reached the level of West Germany. For example, the difference in income between Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Hamburg is more than 21,000 euros,” the portal says.
The Left Party talks about “political corruption against East Germans”. and marks victories for the right-wing AfD party in the east of the country.
“If East Germany’s full-time workers earn on average 13,000 euros less per year than their counterparts in West Germany, no politician should be surprised by the AfD’s high scores,” left MP Soren Bellmann told RND. He also said that the central government is yet to come up with a pay equity scheme.
