Jason Kelce has spoken candidly about the amount of attention his brother Travis Kelce has received amid his relationship with Taylor Swift.
The former Philadelphia Eagles center, 36, shared how his family has adjusted to their newfound fame since the Kansas City Chiefs player began dating the 14-time Grammy Award winner in the summer of 2023. During a recent appearance on… Ginger whisky podcast, Jason admitted that he thought life was getting “crazy” for him and wife Kylie Kelsey, but “Travis and Taylor took it to another level.”
“Kylie and I think it’s bad and then we go hang out with someone for a second,” he told podcast host Andrew Santino on June 7. “This is a completely different situation here. You can’t be a normal person at that point.”
The NFL star’s comments come after a fan harassed Jason and Kylie in Margate City, New Jersey. The couple, married since 2018, were in the parking lot outside Steve & Cookie’s Restaurant and Oyster Bar on the weekend when a woman hit their truck and asked to take a photo. According to the viral Instagram videoJason and Kelsey declined the photo request and indicated that the time was not appropriate.
However, the woman reportedly became aggressive and shouted at Kylie, saying: “I don’t care who you are, you will never be allowed in this city.”
“I can smell the alcohol on your breath,” Kylie can be heard responding as the camera pans away. “You’re embarrassing yourself.”
The woman — who later identified herself as Andre Goldberg — issued a statement to local ABC News outlet And inNoting that she apologized directly to Kelsey’s family after the incident. “In a heated moment, I said things that were out of character and I regret them, and I’m sorry for that,” Goldberg said. “Although I apologized directly to Kelsey’s family on Saturday, I want to publicly apologize to them, and to our community. My anger and actions are not reflective of my character, and certainly not indicative of Margate’s welcoming community.”
Margate Mayor Michael Cullen also issued a statement on Facebook expressing his embarrassment and regret.
“On behalf of the City of Margate, I would like to formally apologize to Jason and Kylie Kelsey for the experience they had in Margate City over the weekend,” he wrote on the city’s account. Facebook page. “As a father of young children, I know as well as anyone the importance of a night in with your wife and I would like to offer you a new dinner date.”
Seemingly reflecting on the incident, Jason explained during the podcast that Kylie is “a little uncomfortable” with the levels of fame they’re receiving, but they “tried to push back” from the attention.
“She enjoys the fact that she can go and do charity outings, give back to the community, do clinics with the little girls and play field hockey and all this other stuff,” the father of three told Santino.
While Kylie may be “a little more hesitant” to embrace her newfound fame, Jason said he reminds his wife that they will “get through it” together.
“It’s hard to always be available, but I think most of the time it’s a great interaction, when you do those things and the vast majority of people are… respectful and appreciative,” he added. “We’re in a very fortunate position to be able to be where we are now, and it’s all because of these people who are really big fans.”
Jason and Kylie have been married for six years. The couple went public with their relationship in 2015, after meeting on Tinder. Following their wedding in 2018, the couple went on to welcome their first daughter, Wyatt Elizabeth, in October 2019; their second daughter, Elliot Rae, in March 2021; Their third daughter, Bennett Llewellyn, is due in February 2023.
