Joanna Gaines Sends an important pre-holiday self-care reminder.
Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, the former “Fixer Upper” star shared a photo of herself wearing sunglasses in a hospital bed after undergoing a procedure known as a microdiscectomy. She explained that the need for surgery stemmed from a back injury she sustained from a high school cheerleading accident.
Gaines said in the post that she received her first microdiscectomy in 2001, which led her to cancel her second appointment with now-husband Chip Gaines, and had the same procedure “on another disc two days earlier.”
“I’ve always joked that my back likes to act out at the most inconvenient of times, and I was a little nervous before timing it all with the holiday season,” she admitted. “But I’m really grateful for the forced rest during the busiest time of the year. Just staying put, staring at the marvels all around, and staying still has been such a gift.”
Gaines ended her message by wishing her followers a “beautiful week of Christmas” and reminding them, “Things may not go as planned – but you can find beauty and embrace the wonderfulness of the present.”
Gaines and her husband, whom she married in May 2003, share five children together: Drake’s son, 18; daughter Ella Rose, 16; son of Duke, 14; daughter Amy Kay, 12; and his son Crowe 4.
