Kevin Bacon is not a fan of the “normal” lifestyle.
The 65-year-old “Footloose” actor recalled the moment he disguised himself as an ordinary citizen in a desperate attempt to see what life was like for the non-Hollywood elite.
“I don’t complain, but I have a face that is easily recognizable,” Bacon said. He told Vanity Fair magazine,“Wearing my hat and glasses will only help to a certain extent.”
“I went to a special effects makeup artist, had some consultations, and had him make me a prosthetic costume.”
The actor’s disguise consists of a false nose, false teeth, and glasses.
Dressed in full costume, the actor headed to Los Angeles’ popular tourist area The Grove for an afternoon of shopping.
But he soon encountered terror on every side – his disguise worked too well.
“Nobody recognized me. People avoided me, they weren’t nice. Nobody said, ‘I love you,’” Bacon said.
“I had to wait in line to get a nice coffee or something,” he complained. “I was like, ‘This is bad. I want to get back to fame.’”
Fame is nothing new to Bacon, who has become a household name since getting his big break in 1984 with the hit film “Footloose” at the age of 26.
The leading role quickly opened doors to countless TV shows and movies.
His career was so prolific that it led to a game called “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon” where the goal was to pair any actor with Kevin Bacon in less than six roles.
Fame runs in his family.
The actor’s father, Edmund Bacon, was a well-known urban planner who even appeared on the cover of Time magazine – which encouraged Kevin to pursue a career in Hollywood.
“As far as giving credit to my parents, and of course I give all the credit to them, my mother was very artistic and really encouraged me to act,” he told the newspaper.
“They both encouraged creativity as much as possible in everything – dance, music, theatre, painting, sculpture, anything.”
