After playing together in San Francisco for three seasons, both Kyle Gosek and Richard Sherman are familiar with the inner workings of the current 49ers system.
Juszczyk joined his former teammate on “The Richard Sherman Podcast,” where the duo delved into discussing the 49ers’ hot start to the season.
Sherman asked Juszczyk what the difference is with Kyle Shanahan this season, noting that the 49ers coach seems “happier and healthier” than he has in years past.
“Yes, and that does not mean that everything was easy and that he was not worried,” Goscheck said. “Kyle is Kyle, and he’s always going to be hard on us. He definitely expects a lot from us. He even said that, with the team that we have, the culture that we’ve built, the leadership, just the amount of experience that we have. Like there’s some little things that we don’t have to worry about as much.” .
“Like when a team starts talking about the playoffs and seeding, that kind of thing, and this early in the year, you can sometimes get a little anxious like, ‘Do these guys understand what it takes to get through an entire NFL season?’”
After reaching back-to-back NFC Championship Games, the 49ers’ roster is filled with players who now have extensive playoff experience and a first-hand account of what it takes to make a deep postseason run.
Juszczyk talked about how important that perspective is for a team looking to be on a fast track to the top seed in the NFC playoffs.
“But with this team, we’ve all been through it,” Juszczyk explained. “I don’t think we’re getting too ahead of ourselves. We’re definitely preoccupied with what’s going on right now, but we also realize that what’s going on right now really impacts us when it comes to seeding. “It’s huge when you’re trying to get into that dance, a bye in the first round is no joke . “It’s a serious advantage, and it’s something we’re trying to get.”
The 49ers are stifling their opponents this season, with an average margin of victory of 19.8 points per game.
They have held double-digit leads in the second half of all five games this season, and a questionable decision by Rams coach Sean McVay was the only thing keeping them from having a double-digit margin of victory in every game they played.
There’s still plenty of season left for Shanahan and the 49ers to focus on, but up to this point, it’s been smooth sailing.
