Kate Middleton received a standing ovation at Wimbledon last Sunday – and a lip reader has revealed her sweet reaction.
The Princess of Wales, 42, was a welcome presence at the annual Grand Slam as she continues to undergo cancer treatment after being diagnosed in March.
She delighted fans when she arrived at the All England Lawn Tennis Club with her 9-year-old daughter, Princess Charlotte, and sister, Pippa Middleton.
Lip reader Jeremy Freeman analyses the moment Princess Catherine sat next to her daughter as the centre courtroom erupted in applause and cheers.
Middleton had asked Charlotte to “come here” as the pair reached their seats, Freeman He told Al Shams newspaper.
She then thanked the lady who had accompanied them into the royal box, before turning to the crowd to wave her hand vigorously.
The Queen then said “hello” to other viewers, before turning to the lady next to her and describing the audience’s reaction to her appearance as “so sweet”.
After the match in which Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz defeated Novak Djokovic in straight sets, Princess Catherine presented the trophy to the tournament champion and runner-up.
She shook hands with the players before presenting them with their hard-earned awards.
Her visit comes just a month after she joined the royal family to attend King Charles’ birthday celebrations on the balcony of Buckingham Palace at Trooping the Colour.
The princess was joined by some Hollywood royalty in the royal box during Sunday’s match.
Actress Julia Roberts, her cinematographer husband Danny Moder, and actors Tom Cruise and Benedict Cumberbatch were seen sitting near the prince.
As patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, the future Queen – a keen tennis fan – made an effort to attend the tournament every year, and was often spotted watching matches from the Royal Box on Centre Court.
In previous years, Middleton has attended both the men’s and women’s finals and presented the winners and runners-up with their awards.
As part of her support for the annual tournament, her husband Prince William travelled to Berlin, Germany, to cheer on the England men’s football team in their match against Spain in the final of the 2024 European Football Championship.
The Prince of Wales, 42, who is president of the English Football Association, also took Prince George to the sporting event.
