As Tyler told reporters aboard the president’s plane, Air Force One, there was no discussion within the president’s staff about withdrawing his nomination. He also said Biden plans to participate in a second debate, scheduled for September 10 and hosted by ABC Television.
Tyler responded to calls from liberal commentators and activists after he was heavily criticized for his speech impediments and stuttering in Thursday’s debate. The president himself indicated his weakness in the fight with Trump on Friday during a campaign rally in North Carolina, but at the same time declared that he does not want to stop the fight.
– I know I’m not getting any younger. I know I won’t walk as easily as I used to. I know I won’t be as smooth as I used to be. I know I’m not as good at debating as I used to be (…), but I know I can do this job, he said.
On Friday, Biden will attend a reception with his campaign supporters in New York, where singer Elton John will also perform.
Trump, in turn, appeared at a rally in Chesapeake, Virginia, where he declared a “tremendous victory” in the debate and mocked Biden’s performance, saying, “He was well prepared and didn’t know what he was saying.” However, he noted that Biden’s problem is not age, but “incompetence,” and pointed out that other Democrats who could replace the president as the Democratic nominee do not have better poll ratings than Biden.
