Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” a historical drama about the serial targeting and killing of members of the oil-rich Osage tribe, will open in limited theaters starting October 6. 20.
Produced by Apple Original Films, Killers of the Flower Moon will then begin streaming on Apple TV+ on an unspecified date. Paramount Pictures will partner with Apple for the theatrical release of the film, which features an impressive ensemble cast that includes Academy Award winners Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and Brendan Fraser, as well as Jesse Plemons and Lily Gladstone. Given the top talent involved, “Killers of the Flower Moon” is expected to be a major player in the award season.
Scorsese, who won an Academy Award for The Departed and is routinely ranked among the greatest filmmakers in history, directs the film from a script he wrote with Eric Roth. The movie is based on David Grann’s best-selling book of the same name. It unfolds in Oklahoma in the 1920s and depicts the serial killings of members of the Native Americans and the investigation of a series of brutal crimes committed by the FBI.
Selected festival-goers may get a sneak peek at the film before the fall, as multiple sources say the film is expected to debut at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where it will be one of its fanciest premieres.
“Killers of the Flower Moon” is produced in association with Imperative Entertainment, Sikelia Productions, and Appian Way. Producers are Scorsese, Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, and Daniel Luby, with DiCaprio, Rick Yorn, Adam Sommer, Marian Bauer, Lisa Frechette, John Atwood, Shea Kammer, and Niels Juhl as executive producers.
