Stafford said the media took Kelly’s comments and ran with them, but the players didn’t pay much attention to them.
“I think that’s more from you guys than anything else,” Stafford told reporters. “I was going to come out here with a newspaper under my arm and some glasses. Set the mood, but it turns out you can’t even find a newspaper here, so I couldn’t do that. I was going to try to enjoy it, but no, it was great. I love coming to work I love working with these guys and they all know it.
Stafford said he “absolutely” communicates with his teammates and that he doesn’t need to address his wife’s comments with them.
“No, I think these guys understand where I’m coming from. They see me coming into this building every day and they know how I go to work, they know how I interact with everyone, and we haven’t given it much thought to be honest with you,” Stafford said.
In the end, Stafford said, there was no problem with either his wife’s comments or his ability to communicate with his teammates.
“I’m not too concerned about that,” Stafford said. “No one in the dressing room is worried about it, I can promise you that. We’ve completely gotten over it, we’ve never stopped thinking about it, to be honest with you. But yeah, I’m not too worried about it.”
The 35-year-old Stafford leads a young Rams team into Sunday’s season opener at Seattle.
