Meghan Markle gives Colombian vice president a mysterious ‘personal gift’ as she and Harry arrive in Bogota

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry did not arrive in Colombia empty-handed, as they showered the country’s Vice President, Francia Márquez, with mysterious gifts upon their arrival.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived in the South American country on Thursday at the start of their four-day trip.

After arriving in the capital, Bogota, the 43-year-old “Suits” alumna presented Marquez, Colombia’s first black woman to hold the position, with a “personal gift.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were personally invited by the Marquess after she was inspired by a Netflix documentary about the couple.

After exchanging gifts, the two women took photos together.

Marquez reportedly then expressed admiration for Prince Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, who died in 1997. According to Harper’s Bazaar.

Harry, 39, and Meghan were invited for tea and coffee at the Marquess’ private residence, where they tried a traditional pan de bono – a Colombian cheese bread.

Later that day, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were seen holding hands as they strolled the streets of Bogota.

The couple had a busy schedule in preparation for their quick trip, which began with attending a counselling session at a local children’s school.

The couple also took part in a summit with experts, activists and community members working to create more positive online environments – something Harry and Meghan were passionate about.

Later Friday, the duo will meet with students before attending a luncheon hosted by Marquez.

They will conclude the day with a meeting with participants in the Colombian Invictus Games.

It is worth noting that Colombia became the first country in South America to join the Harry Invictus Games, which he launched in 2014 for active and retired military service members from around the world who have been injured, wounded or sick.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are also scheduled to visit Cartagena and Cali during their trip.

The trip comes just days after the couple’s chief of staff, Josh Kettler, resigned after just three months on the job.

The reason for Ketler’s departure was revealed on Wednesday – just a day before he was due to accompany the Duchess of Sussex on their trip to Colombia.

This visit comes just months after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited Nigeria.
