Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney won five Creative Arts Emmys for their film Welcome to Wrexhamthe FX series that follows the pair's purchase of the third-oldest professional soccer club in the world.
In the acceptance speech that Reynolds shared on social media, he appeared dressed as Deadpool, holding Hugh Jackman's broken Emmy Award.
“Wow, Amy, what an incredible honor,” McElhenney begins in his acceptance speech. “There are so many people to thank. I've been waiting for this moment for 16 years. So I have a lot to say. I'd like to start by saying thank you—”
Reynolds then interrupts McIlhenny and says: “Sir. Lively couldn't be here to accept the broken Amy so he sent me on his behalf. First and foremost, Wrexham, we love you. Thank you for letting Rob and the other man tell your story. Cymru Beth's mother [Wales forever]”Bitches.”
He continued: “I would also like to thank the Academy for this honor and for not asking us to attend the televised awards ceremony with real celebrities. I would also like to thank FX and Disney for their support and in return, Mr. Lively promised not to harm my next film.
Reynolds ended his speech by denouncing the Oscars, adding: “You know, you bastards. Maybe we can get a token VFX nod next year. The amount of work on Hugh and Ryan's faces alone deserves at least a nod.”
