An Egyptian businessman who came to Great Britain in the early 1960s, he became the owner of the luxury London department store Harrods in 1985. He also bought the famous Ritz hotel in Paris. During the years 1997-2013 he was the owner of the oldest professional football club in London – Fulham FC.
Born in a poor suburb of Alexandria on January 27, 1929, he lived most of his life in Britain.
Mohammed Al-Fayed was the father of Dodi Al-Fayed He had an affair with Princess Diana and died with her in a car accident on August 31, 1997. Mohammed blamed the British secret services for their deaths, saying it was a planned attack because the royal family did not want to accept the Egyptian as the future king’s stepfather.
Mohammed Al-Fayed “passed away peacefully of old age on Wednesday, August 30, 2023.” The family wrote in a statement issued by Fulham Football Club. Earlier, dailymail.co.uk reported that the billionaire died on August 31, the exact anniversary of his son’s fatal accident.
The funeral took place on Friday at the Central Mosque in London’s Regent’s Park – in keeping with Islamic custom of burying the dead within 24 hours.
