NASCAR Cup Series in Nashville: Chase Elliott wins Ally 400 in race marred by weather

Lebanon, fig – In general, a night in Nashville is planned well in advance, as the city’s entertainment district attracts country music fans and tourists from all over the world. Chase Elliott, though, didn’t exactly have plans to be in Nashville on a late Sunday night until Mother Nature forced them – but he has made the most of it, and now he has a Gibson guitar for his problems.

After two lengthy weather lags forced the second half of the Ally 400 to run on Sunday night, Elliott came back to life and survived a late-race warning to win at the Nashville Superspeedway, claiming his second win of the 2022 season. Elliott became the fifth repeat winner this season, and his victory in Nashville represents His second win of the season on a concrete racetrack. Elliott previously won Dover Motor Speedway in May.

Elliott had made a comfortable lead into the long final round for the green flag and seemed poised for a sure victory until Josh Bellecki blew out the engine nine laps before, setting a caution late in the race and a frantic finish. Elliott and crew chief Alan Gustafson chose to stay outside under caution as his closest rival came to the road, which proved to be the right decision in the final round of four laps to the checkered flag.
