NBC SPORTS CALIFORNIA names Chris Caray as play-by-play announcer for the Oakland Athletics

the fourth Generation MLB announcer joins primary television play-by-play voice Jenny Cavnar

San Francisco – February 20, 2024 – NBC Sports California named Chris Caray play-by-play announcer for his live coverage of the Oakland Athletics, it was announced Tuesday. He joins Jenny Cavnar, who was named last week as the primary play-by-play voice for Network A's coverage. Caray became the fourth generation of his family to work as a play-by-play announcer in Major League Baseball.

Most recently, Caray, along with his identical twin brother Stefan, has handled the bullpen for the Amarillo Sod Poodles, the Arizona Diamondbacks' Double-A, and Arizona Fall League affiliate. He previously held the same role for the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod Baseball League. Caray also has baseball contact experience at Valdosta State University and Georgia Gwinnett College for baseball, softball and soccer.

Caray follows his father Chip, grandfather Skip and great-grandfather Harry into MLB broadcasts. Chip Caray is the current television play-by-play voice of the St. Louis Cardinals. Louis Cardinals. Skip Caray hit the most notable games called for the Atlanta Braves from 1976 to 2008. Harry Caray received the Ford C. Frick Award from the National Baseball Hall of Fame for the significant contributions he made to the game of baseball during his legendary broadcast career covering the Cardinals (1945) to 1969 ), the A's (1970), the Chicago White Sox (1971 to 1981) and the Chicago Cubs (1982 to 1997).

Caray earned a degree in journalism from the University of Georgia. As a student, he spent two years as sports director for WUOG Radio, the university's radio station. In this role, he received the prestigious WSB Radio Award, which honors the most outstanding student broadcaster in the state of Georgia.
