Queen Elizabeth II’s staff lined the street outside Buckingham Palace to bid farewell to the Queen after her funeral – and it wasn’t just the royals’ mortals seen during Monday’s festivities. The Queen’s dogs and one of her ponies were taken to watch the procession in Windsor.
The Queen’s dogs, Moek and Sandy, two Pembroke Welsh Corgis, waited at the quadrangle at Windsor Castle as the funeral procession arrived while they were cared for by two servants.
At the time of her death, the Queen also had two other dogs – a Dorje named Candy, and Lysie the Spaniel. It has been confirmed Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson will take care of Corgi. Andrew was later seen in the company of dogs.
The Queen was first given a corgi when she was seven, and generations of royal corgis are descended from Susie, a corgi she got when she was 18.
The Queen’s Fell, Carltonlima Emma, who was led to the side of the road at a gap between floral salutes as the coffin passed, was also shown.
The horse is usually known as Emma, and was called a horse Among the Queen’s favourites for 2020 Horse & Hound magazine by Terry Pendry, Windsor groomsman. The queen was a patron Elephant Pony AssociationAnd she continued to ride Emma when she was in her 90s.
Animals didn’t play quite as prominent a role as they did at some royal funerals in the past. Heads of state were reportedly somewhat surprised at King Edward VII’s funeral in 1910 to find themselves behind King Caesar’s dog, a wired fox, in the solemn procession.
Caesar is included in a statue of Edward VII and his queen above their grave in St George’s Chapel, where Queen Elizabeth II was commissioned on Monday.
