A video from Manipur state of two months of clashes between the ethnic majority Meithi and the tribal minority Kuki emerged on social media only on Wednesday, despite being recorded in early May. The video shows two nude women being dragged by a gang of men and pushed into a field.
The Forum of Tribal Leaders issued a statement saying that the video depicts the torture of Kuki women after being raped. The mob burned the village.

Clashes between the Meitei and Kuki have been ongoing since early May as a result of the government’s decision to allow the majority Meitei group into a scheme that includes the most socio-economically disadvantaged groups in India. So far 130 people have died in this conflict.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has so far remained tight-lipped about the conflict and unrest, declared that “what happened to the daughters of Manipur will not be forgiven”. He assured that the law would be “strictly enforced”.
