Riley Keough looked stunning when she hit the red carpet Thursday night for the Los Angeles premiere of her highly anticipated new show, “Daisy Jones & the Six.”
Fans of the hit novel by Taylor Jenkins Reed are eagerly awaiting the on-screen version starring Elvis Presley’s granddaughter, which will debut on Amazon Prime on March 3.
Elsewhere, Keough, 33, was on a huge promotional tour, but was still reeling from the sudden death of her mother, Lisa Marie Presley, 54, just six weeks earlier from cardiac arrest. The actress was so overcome at her mother’s funeral that her husband, Ben Smith-Petersen, read her eulogy, in which she announced the surprise arrival of their baby girl, Tupelo.
Her appearance at the London premiere of “Daisy” on Feb. 16 was canceled and other press tours were carefully orchestrated, with reporters telling Keough wouldn’t be answering questions about her mother — or her grandmother, Priscilla Presley.
In a shocking move, days after Lisa Marie’s death, Priscilla filed a petition in Los Angeles questioning the “validity and validity” of the 2016 amendment to Lisa Marie’s trust and estate. The amendment named Keogh as the controller of the fund, which includes Graceland, the Memphis tourist glitzy mansion of Lisa Marie’s father, Elvis Presley, and 15% ownership of the legendary late singer’s estate.
Amid a report that Keough found her at odds now, longtime friend Lisa Marie confirmed to Page Six: “Riley and Priscilla don’t talk. Their relationship is changing, it’s true… It’s very sad. This is when Riley will really need her grandmother.”
Although the two were close, the friend said, “Riley is seeing a new side of her grandmother.”
A Graceland source said that Keough didn’t want it to be that way.
“Riley isn’t looking for a war. She’s always been on good terms with her grandmother,” said the Graceland source. “Lisa had her issues with her mom, but…she’s not late. [her kids] inside [their] Personal Issues.”
Page Six has been told Keough has a sizable legal team behind her, but one legal expert said the actress doesn’t need to file anything in retaliation against Priscilla until just days before her April 13 court hearing in Los Angeles.
Representatives for Keough and Priscilla were not available for comment.
Any legal maneuvers are sure to steal attention away from “Daisy,” in which Keough plays the Stevie Nicks-esque lead singer of a fictional ’70s band, alongside Brit Sam Claflin.
Talking to Entertainment tonightKeough did not talk about her mother or grandmother, although she admitted that she had benefited from her family’s musical heritage during months of rehearsals for the band, saying, “I don’t know if my grandfather’s legacy continues… but it was a really fun experience for me.. .
She added, “I listen to music and my whole family is musicians, and I’ve been around this world a lot and been on tour and all that kind of stuff.” “But I never did it myself. For me, it was more about my personal relationship with getting to play music, and that was fun.”
This week, she posted photos of her interview’s looks on social media; In one you can see She tattooed her late brother Benjamin’s name. Lisa Marie had already listed him and Keough as co-guardians of the heir, before the 27-year-old took his own life in July 2020.
Lisa Marie’s representatives have confirmed that the Elvis estate is now in the hands of her three daughters, including 14-year-old twins Finley and Harper, whose father is Lisa Marie’s fourth husband Michael Lockwood.
Elvis fans bombarded her Instagram, imploring her to “take care” of Graceland.
One even wrote, “Don’t let your grandma win. Follow your mom’s wishes,” while another commented: “You’re the rightful owner of Graceland Riley never stop fighting for what’s yours. Your mom and grandpa both want Graceland to be yours.”
Lisa Marie previously named Priscilla, 77, and former business manager Barry Siegel as co-custodians in 2010 — but the 2016 amendment put the trust in the hands of her children.
“In essence, there shouldn’t be an infighting within the family over the trust that was always supposed to go to Riley and Benjamin,” said Graceland’s source. “Lisa was supposed to outlive her mother.”
As Friends already said on Page Six, Lisa Marie would be “angry” depending on the situation. Joel Weinshanker, managing partner at Elvis Presley Enterprises, told SiriusXM’s Elvis Radio that Lisa Marie was “very certain” that her estate should be left to her children, adding: “[It] It was always Riley and Ben.
“There was never any question in her mind that they would be the judges, that they would look at it the exact same way I did…even though Riley is a movie star.” [and] An award-winning manager, she always had an interest and always knew that one day, she’d be in charge of [things]. “
Graceland’s source told Page Six, “Why does Priscilla feel like she’s best suited to run things? Why does she feel like she should take charge?”
Priscilla, meanwhile, explained that she feels it is necessary, saying, “Please ignore the ‘noise’. Because I’ve always been there for Elvis’ legacy, our family, and the fans, I will continue to forge a path forward with respect, honesty, dignity, integrity, and love.”
Keough spent much of 2022 in the company of her mother and grandmother while promoting the movie “Elvis” alongside actor Austin Butler who plays the King and director Baz Luhrmann.
Lisa Marie’s last major public appearance was at the Golden Globes, just four days before her death, with Priscilla. But, as Page Six previously reported, they didn’t want to sit down together because their relationship was so fraught.
However, with Butler winning the Academy Award for Best Actor on March 12 after winning Golden Globes and BAFTAs, Priscilla is set to appear at the awards show. “Lisa was really looking forward to the Oscars,” the friend said. In fact, Lisa Marie posted online last May: “If he doesn’t get an Oscar for this, I’m going to eat my own feet, haha.”
But as to whether or not Keough will attend, the source at Graceland said, “It’s unlikely.”
