Actor Rob Lowe was thrilled to gift his son, John Owen Lowe, a slice to celebrate his five years of sobriety during their appearance. in “The Drew Barrymore Show” Thursday.
Barrymore discussed her sobriety with the duo, saying her daughters Olive, 10, and Frankie, 8, understand she can’t drink alcohol.
Of her daughters, she said, “They support me through my tragedies.” “And you guys are such a wonderful family unit that support each other through all the highs and lows, everything.”
The honest confession prompts Rob to open up about his sobriety journey, revealing that he has now gone 33 years without alcohol.
“We’re doing it, and to be able to share recovery — you’re in recovery, I’m in recovery — I’ve been in recovery for 33 years… Johnny has five,” the actor said.
Then the 59-year-old pulled a sobriety chip out of his pocket, which he gave to his son.
“Actually, it was Johnny’s five-year birthday on Saturday, and I want Johnny to give you a five-year slice,” said the Parks and Recreation star.
“I love you. I’m proud of you,” he told John Owen, 28.
“I’m speechless. I usually have a witty response. I don’t have one for that,” he said to his father.
For his part, Rob has been very open about his own path to sobriety and previously credited Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler for helping him start his alcohol-free journey.
Tyler, 75, offered a few words of encouragement — though the two never met in person.
“I’ve probably been sober for two or three weeks, and I got a phone call from Steven Tyler, who I didn’t know,” Rob revealed in 2014. “He called me and said, ‘I hear you’re recovering. I just wanted to say, ‘Hey, you’re going to do great.'”

Rob said the rock call helped change his perspective and he thought, “If it’s good enough for Steven Tyler, it’s good enough for me.”
“It’s a big part of who I am today,” he added.
In 2014, the actor shared that he had become sober in order to stop cheating on his wife, Sheryl Berkoff.
