Airport food service workers voted 99.7% in favor of authorizing a strike in August.

“Peaceful civil disobedience, in addition to the picket lines by hundreds of workers and supporters, has drawn attention to the workers’ struggle against poor wages and unaffordable health care,” a press release from the unions.
According to the press release, many fast food workers “haven’t seen an increase in three years,” earning $17.05 an hour, which requires people to work two or three jobs to make ends meet.
Lucinda To, a lounge attendant at the United Club as well as a server at Cat Cora’s Kitchen at the airport, said in a press release that she lives four hours of sleep a day.
“I have to work two jobs to support my family, and I’m exhausted from living four hours of sleep a day,” he said. “I earn $16.99 an hour even though the airport meal costs at least $20. I hope this protest shows people that the San Francisco International Office workers need a change, and we’re ready to strike for that.”
Among those present at the protest were former California congresswoman Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher and Senator Josh Baker.
