– Not Putin, but ordinary Russian soldiers came from Russia to kill, torture and destroy. Russians mostly support the war, they support missile attacks on Ukrainian cities and killing Ukrainians. So, we read in a statement on Twitter by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine that let Russian tourists enjoy Russia.
Scholz spoke of “Putin’s war”. Kiev’s harsh response
This was in response to Olaf Scholz’s statement on Thursday that Vladimir Putin was waging war in Ukraine and that the German government was therefore against a general ban on Russian entry into the EU.
This war is Putin’s war. We have introduced far-reaching, specific sanctions against Russian officials, oligarchs and powerful organizations in Russia. And we will definitely take the next steps. But if we now extend these measures to everyone, including completely innocent people, we will reduce the effectiveness of these sanctions, the German chancellor told a press conference in Berlin.
Volodymyr Zelensky was the first to speak about the ban on Russian entry into the EU for tourism purposes. Ukraine’s president called on Russian citizens not to be allowed into other countries until they “change their philosophy.” Zelenskiy believes that such restrictions will be more effective than those imposed so far by the EU.
On Thursday, the Estonian government announced that it will not allow Russians with Schengen visas issued by Estonia within the past week to enter the country, with some exceptions. Estonian Prime Minister Kaia Kallas called for an end to issuing tourist visas to Russians for trips to the EU. He insisted that going to Western Europe was a privilege, not a human right. Officials from Finland, Latvia and the Czech Republic expressed similar views.
Since the outbreak of war, Russia’s neighboring countries have experienced a significant increase in the number of tourists from Russia. Schengen visas entitle you to travel within the zone for three months. Russians usually leave their country by land to use the airports there.
