Police raided a Florida mansion believed to be Sean Kingston’s residence.
The singer, whose legal name is Kisan Anderson, lives in a residence near Fort Lauderdale, court documents said.
Last February, a company accused him of not paying the full price of a television and a large audio system.
A woman believed to be his mother was arrested at the property Thursday morning on fraud and theft charges.
In a statement to the BBC, the Broward Sheriff’s Office confirmed that it had issued arrest and search warrants at the property.
“As a result of the investigation, an adult female, named Janice Turner, was taken into custody on 2/16/1963, on numerous counts of fraud and theft.
“This investigation is active and ongoing.”
It is not clear whether Mr. Kingston was present at the property during the time of the arrest, or whether the arrest is related to the company’s allegations.
Mr. Kingston appeared to respond to the news via his Instagram account.
In response to reports that the arrested woman is his mother, the singer said: “I’m fine and so is my mother.”
“My lawyers are handling everything as we speak,” he added.
The BBC has contacted Kingston and his mother, known on Instagram as Mama Kingston, for comment.
In court documents seen by the BBC, Ver Ver Entertainment claims that Kingston contacted the company via social media in September 2023 to purchase a “massive 232-inch TV, along with a powerful sound system.”
The company alleges that Kingston “induced” the company to install the products “with as small a down payment as possible” by making “numerous false representations,” including a suggestion that he would create promotional videos for the company with Justin Bieber.
After the installation, the company says Mr. Kingston failed to make the remaining payments, and it sued him for breach of contract and fraud.
An attorney representing Ver Ver Entertainment told Local 10 in Miami that the company hopes to recover it from the home after the police raid.
“We know our property is inside this house here, so once the raid happens, we will have a crew of people there to reassemble it and return it to its rightful owner,” he added.
Kingston, 34, is famous for hit songs such as “Beautiful Girls,” “Fire Burning,” and “Eenie Meenie,” featuring Justin Bieber.
