Six people on a United Airlines flight from Israel to Newark were taken to the hospital after the plane was forced to divert to an airport in New York on Friday due to high winds, officials said.
United Airlines Flight 85 departed Tel Aviv and landed safely at Stuart International Airport in Orange County, New York, around 6:45 p.m., where it was met by paramedics on the runway, according to photos and a statement from the airline.
United said the plane, which was carrying more than 300 passengers, was diverted to New York Airport “after reports of strong winds in Newark.”
The airline said one passenger had a “medical incident” and several other passengers were being evaluated for possible motion sickness.
Six people were taken to the hospital for “minor illnesses,” New Windsor EMS said in a social media post.
United said the Boeing 737 plane refueled in Stuart and then continued its flight to Newark.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the accident.
