Back in 2022, with just over a month left until the planned release of Advance Wars 1 + 2: Re-Boot Camp on Switch, Nintendo has indefinitely postponed the game in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Jump to April 2023 and the game will finally be out, though that seems to be a delay maybe It had an unfortunate effect on users’ ability to redeem My Nintendo Gold Points. According to the Australian website Vooksan attempt to redeem points results in an error code that states “You cannot collect My Nintendo Points for this program due to the expiration date”.
In addition to the above, users in reddit They also claim that they are unable to redeem their gold points due to the expiry period. While most of them appear to be based in Australia, there are examples in other regions.
Elsewhere, however, one of our writers tried to redeem points and actually succeeded, getting 80 gold points from a physical copy of Advance Wars 1 + 2.
So what exactly is going on here? Well, as Nintendo themselves stated via Official support pageGold Points must be claimed within Two years From the game’s original release date “in Europe and South Africa, however other countries should be replaced” within One year from the game’s original release date”.
It is entirely plausible, then, that certain batches of the physical release were made prior to the original release date of April 2022, which means that this year’s redemption period has passed. This is of course just a guess on our part and has not been confirmed at this time.
We will do more testing on our end and will provide an update as soon as we can.
