Russia warns Japan
Russia says German and Spanish forces will participate in the maneuver. The Kremlin is clearly demanding that Japan withdraw from the July 19-25 military drills near the Russian border.

Russia officially registered “strong opposition”, saying the drills were a provocation close to Russia’s Far Eastern borders. Particularly unacceptable to the Kremlin is the fact that Japan has invited “non-regional NATO countries” such as Germany and Spain to participate in the maneuvers.
A statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry said: “We perceive such activity as a threat.” The ministry indicated it was ready to take “countermeasures” against Japan, including “strengthening the country’s defense capabilities and protecting its sovereignty.”
Russian military exercises
It is not clear whether Russia is really worried or trying to manipulate the situation. The Russian regime regularly organizes similar military exercises, often in cooperation with Belarus. Earlier this month, Moscow and Minsk held exercises using tactical nuclear weapons, aimed at ensuring readiness to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both countries.
