The Duffer Brothers are producing a horror series for Netflix, directed by Haley Z. Boston.

Netflix has greenlit a new horror series that will feature the Duffer brothers, creators of “Stranger Things,” as executive producers.

The series is currently titled Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen and is being created by Haley Z. Boston. The official plot synopsis describes the series as “an atmospheric horror series set at a wedding, following a bride and groom in the week leading up to their ill-fated nuptials. This is not a spoiler – just read the title…”

Boston created the series and also serves as executive producer and showrunner. Duvers and Hilary Levitt executive produce via Upside Down Pictures. Andrea Sperling also executive produces. Both Sperling and Upside Down are under overall deals with Netflix.

“We are thrilled to once again partner with our dream partners Matt, Ross and Hilary to bring this unexpected and exciting story to life through Haley’s unique and exciting vision,” said Peter Friedlander, Vice President of Scripted Series (U.S. & Canada) at Netflix.

“We were blown away when we first read Haley’s script. She’s an incredible new talent with a unique voice — her writing is twisted, terrifying, funny, and… just like Haley,” added Al Duffer. “We feel incredibly fortunate to be producing her first show, and we can’t wait to share her vision with the rest of the world.”

Boston’s previous credits include writing for Netflix’s “Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities” as well as “Brand New Cherry Flavor.” She also wrote for the Amazon series “Hunters.” Her first short film as director, “Beach Logs Kill,” premiered at SXSW earlier this year.

She is represented by Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment and Yorn Levine Barnes.

News of the series order comes a day after Netflix revealed a first look at the final season of “Stranger Things.” Production on the latest show of the massive series has largely wrapped. No premiere date has been set, but the season is expected to premiere in 2025. Elsewhere in the “Stranger Things” universe, the play “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” made its West End debut in December.

Under the overall deal, the Duffer duo is set to begin production on “The Boroughs” in the fall, while also developing several other projects. These include a “Stranger Things” spinoff and a “Death Note” movie adaptation.
