Several crew members were injured in the Moroccan sequel to “Gladiator” on June 7 while filming a stunt sequence for the action movie.

“While filming a stunt sequence planned on the set of the Gladiator sequel, an accident occurred during which several crew members sustained non-life-threatening injuries,” a spokesperson for Paramount Pictures, the studio behind the film, said in a statement. . “The full safety and medical services teams on site were able to work quickly so that those affected received the necessary care immediately. All are in a stable condition and continue to receive treatment.”

A total of six people have received treatment, four of whom remain in hospital. All affected crew members have been treated for burn injuries, according to an individual familiar with the production. Two other crew members were treated locally and then released from hospital. The incident occurred at the end of the shooting day. None of the cast members were injured.

The sequel to the 2000 epic stars Oscar-nominated Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, and Connie Nielsen. Ridley Scott, who directed the first film, returns behind the camera, with David Scarpa writing the screenplay.

“Gladiator” was one of the highest-grossing films of the year it debuted, winning the Academy Award for Best Picture, as well as the Best Actor award for Russell Crowe. The sequel is set to hit cinemas on November 22, 2024.

A Paramount spokesperson added, “The well-being of the cast and crew is of the utmost importance to us, and we have strict health and safety measures in place on all of our productions. We will continue to monitor the situation and take all necessary precautions as we resume production.”
