The Mi-8 is a helicopter of Soviet origin. Its history dates back to the 1960s. During the war in Ukraine, it is often used by both sides of the conflict.
Although it is a multi-role helicopter, it is mostly used to transport soldiers and civilians. Types were also produced: VIPs, fuel, and even for laying and destroying mines, but they were not as popular as the basic versions.
A standard Mi-8 can carry approximately 30 soldiers or 4,000 kg of cargo. The helicopter reaches a maximum speed of 250 km/h and can fly at an altitude of 4,500 m. Armament depends on the version, the most common standard equipment being 7.62 mm and 12.7 mm machine guns. Some versions have a more extensive and more lethal arsenal, including: electronic warfare systems and space for anti-tank missiles (mostly 9M17P Scorpion and 9M14 Malyutka).
