It's been a while since Bethesda has had anything significant to say about Starfield, but that should change soon – not only has it now been confirmed that its Shattered Space story expansion is gearing up for a fall release, but a new free update should be launching soon.
Shattered Space first reared its head last June, when it was bundled into two special Starfield editions for release sometime this year. And Todd Howard from Bethesda speaks to Kinda funny games (Thanks VGC) has now narrowed that down, confirming that the expansion — which promises new story content, new locations, new gear, and more — is coming “in the fall.”
But there's more Starfield stuff happening too, as Howard also revealed a new free update “will be announced in a few days this week” before the usual Steam beta – which puts its arrival about a month and a half after the March update, meaning Bethesda doesn't The company is still managing to stick to last year's promise to release new Starfield updates “roughly every six weeks.”
As for what this latest release will bring, Howard teased “a lot of things,” explaining that the team “redesigned the map elements, so we have some city map elements.” Hopefully this will address the much-criticized and bafflingly useless city maps, which are currently presented as two symbols on some rough terrain – no useful street layouts or buildings in sight.
Players can also expect some “cool shipbuilding stuff” as well, though it's not entirely clear what those might be. Howard didn't provide any update on Bethesda's previous interesting promise of “new ways to travel,” but hopefully we'll hear more about that later this year.
