A high school principal refuses to award a diploma because a student violated the school’s rules. The point is that the girl danced towards the stage. Enraged by this, the management decided that the graduate’s behavior was inappropriate.
1. Graduation
It was the day 17-year-old Hafsa Abdur-Rahman graduated from the Philadelphia School for Girls in America. On reading his name, the happy girl expressed her emotions and performed a dance of joy.
His enthusiastic response made the audience laugh. However, when the high school student reached the graduation ceremony venue, her face fell. It turned out that the headmaster of the school would not present his diploma publicly.
Why? Apparently, this school has rules that say family members are not allowed to clap or cheer when their children graduate. The dance performed by Hafsa seems to have violated the rules and that is why the diploma was not awarded. Hafsa wasn’t the only one to leave empty-handed that day. Many other students shared her fate.
2. Girdi dance
Giridi is a dance movement that involves tapping the heels and swinging the arms, just like Hafsa did. The dance was discovered in 2019 by young footballer Alan Davies and went viral on TikTok.
During an interview with Channel 6abc Philadelphia, the woman admitted that the situation made her feel uncomfortable and that she was unable to enjoy graduation like other students. She was also sorry.
– I don’t think it’s fair. She stole this moment from me. I’ll never have it again, she says.
The School District of Philadelphia issued a statement on the matter, saying: “The district will not tolerate family members withholding diplomas from its graduates due to doping. We apologize to all affected families and former students and are continuing to investigate the matter to avoid similar situations in the future.”
After the incident, the deputy director contacted Hafsa and her mother and apologized to them for the incident.
“I understand that traditions and rules are made for a reason, and we’re not saying they should be broken, but they should also be reviewed,” Hafsa’s mother, Yasmin Reid, told the station.
