Reuters, citing four U.S. representatives of the Biden administration, first reported that the U.S. and Great Britain launched strikes on targets linked to the Houthi rebels in Yemen overnight from Thursday to Friday. According to the agency, the strike is carried out by aircraft, surface ships and submarines.
It was the first attack on an Iran-backed group since it began attacking international shipping in the Red Sea.
The attack was confirmed by a Houthi representative who told X Platform that airstrikes were being carried out in several Yemeni cities.
US President Joe Biden also later announced the attack. – US and British military forces, backed by Australia, Bahrain, Canada and the Netherlands, have successfully carried out strikes in Yemen against Houthi rebel targets, he said.
He insisted the strikes were a direct response to Houthi attacks on ships sailing in the Red Sea.
