National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said the new sanctions will be announced next Friday. He declined to provide details of the new measures and did not specify how the United States and its allies would expand sanctions on Russia in response to the invasion of Ukraine, AP writes.
Kirby said only that sanctions coinciding with the second anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine (February 24) “will be complemented by additional sanctions, particularly in relation to Mr. Navalny's death.”
Kirby said the US had not specified how Navalny died, but insisted Russian President Vladimir Putin was responsible. Speaking to the media, he said, “Putin is responsible for this.
