The Witcher 3’s next-gen update is broke, so here’s how to undo it

The RPS Treehouse has also had a problem since installing the 4.0 update as well, getting very inconsistent frame rates at the new max settings even with the RTX 3080 unless ray tracing and other new graphical features are turned off. I started with my copy on GOG and avoided updating, and had no problems running the game. This seems to be the best option for now, as trying to back out of the game after installing the update can make things more difficult.

With the 4.0 update installed for the PC version, some gamers were experiencing extremely low frame rates. Single player posts on The Witcher subreddit Calling the game “unplayable,” they said they were getting 100-120fps when walking around Novograd in 4K yesterday. After the update, that dropped to 45fps even with updated drivers. “RTX 3080 here. I went to Novigrad with RT. I was probably under 30fps regardless of resolution,” said one commenter on the post. “It’s unbelievable.”
