UMG/TikTok beef hurts small artists

…Seems greedy to me!!!

Universal Music Group deleting its songs from TikTok will hurt the company's younger artists the most… says a musician who saw the app raise his own label.

Mario His 2015 cover of The Cure's “The Perfect Girl” went viral in 2021 and led him to a Coachella show…an astronomical leap that he feels will disappear amid UMG/TikTok dispute.

Mareux tells TMZ … UMG saying they're pulling songs from TikTok to help artists financially is suspicious … and says if UMG really cared about their artists they would strengthen their contracts, not ruin their limitless opportunities on TikTok.

From Mario's perspective, artists incorporating their music into TikTok posts is a great marketing tool. He says the resulting exposure on TikTok can literally change an artist's career, as it did for him.

Mareux says UMG is just being greedy here… and he feels bad for lesser-known artists who have been relying on TikTok to market their music… and they tell us they must be feeling really stressed out.

UMG has a huge list… Taylor Swift, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande, Bad bunny, Ice Spice, Rosalia …And Mario explains how established acts will also be affected.

Mareux is a great example of what TikTok can do for a relatively unknown musician…his cover of “Perfect Girl” was kind of floating in the abyss for 6 years until it went viral on TikTok…and he says he wouldn't have a career now without the app.

It's interesting… Maru says artists don't make a lot of money directly from TikTok, but the resulting exposure helps them make their money in different ways… and he believes the UMG strike will put an end to that cash flow.
