After a wave of negative comments surrounding the graphics of Star Wars Outlaws, Ubisoft said it will not delay the launch of the open-world game, and is confident that “people will love it.”
Earlier this month, IGN showed off 10 minutes of brand new gameplay of Star Wars Outlaws, which is featured in the video below. The video wasn’t well-received, with 13,000 dislikes compared to 8,000 likes, and responses in the comments also pointed out technical issues with Ubisoft’s new game, such as dropped frames, stuttering, and issues with ripples along the sand dunes.
“So are we going to ignore the framerate drops and San Andreas-like explosions?” one commenter under the video says, while another adds, “Why do the graphics look so bad and the particle effects on the explosion and Kay’s face?” referring to Outlaws heroine Kay Face. There wasn’t much love for the way Star Wars Outlaws looked, to say the least.
The negative comments were enough to catch the attention of a Bank of America analyst, who asked Ubisoft’s leadership during a Q&A conference call Earlier this week, Ubisoft announced whether it would consider delaying the game’s launch due to the backlash. “The game has been a huge success, so the date is pretty much certain, August 30,” said Frederic Doggett, the company’s chief financial officer.
“We will soon see more high-quality, multi-hour content that will truly show off the depths of the open world that is a key element in the promise of enjoying exploring a multi-planet galaxy, so that should bode well for the game in terms of high-quality delivery,” added Ubisoft’s CFO.
Ubisoft also expressed confidence in the quality of the graphics in the final product. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot added, “As we also said with Star Wars, the level of quality of the world and the experience is really, really high. We’re really taking advantage of our engine, and I think people are going to love it.”
