Steph Curry Talks About Making His First Olympic Team
Steph Curry talks about how he feels after being named to the U.S. Men’s Olympic Basketball Team.
The United States basketball team held off a late comeback attempt by Australia to win their second exhibition game together as the team continues its pre-Olympic exhibition schedule.
The United States beat Canada 86-72 on Wednesday in Game 1 of the U.S. Basketball Championship in Las Vegas. It also beat Australia 98-92 on Monday in a game that came close to qualifying late in the game.
Australia exposed the USA’s shortcomings throughout the fourth quarter with a strong defensive effort that forced fouls and missed shots, but crucial shots in the final quarter from Tyrese Haliburton and Devin Booker kept the USA ahead enough to win the match.
In total, the U.S. team will play five games together during the tournament leading up to the Paris 2024 Olympics. After the two games in Abu Dhabi, the team will play two more games in London before its first Olympic group stage match on July 28.

The United States meets Serbia in Abu Dhabi for the third USA Basketball exhibition game on Wednesday, July 17. The game starts at noon ET and will be broadcast on FS1.
Booker kept the U.S. lead alive with a stunning two-pointer despite a late Australian comeback. The Americans won their second game of the Pan American Basketball Championship and will stay in Abu Dhabi to face Serbia on Wednesday.
Landale scored a quick basket off an incoming play and converted it for his 20th point of the game after being fouled, cutting Australia’s lead to four points with just seconds left.
As Australia continued to pressure the Americans, Booker hit a mid-range jumper with 30 seconds left to give the United States a nine-point lead.
The Indiana Pacers guard hit a three-pointer from the corner to give the U.S. some breathing room after the Americans missed their last seven shots. He hit the same shot after one possession to extend the lead to 12 points with the U.S. now leading 92-81.
Thanks to more mistakes and missed shots by the United States, Australia managed to reduce the points deficit significantly. The United States’ lead was cut to six points. The Americans led 86-80 with five minutes left in the game.
With 10 minutes left in the game, the USA leads Australia 76-61. The five on the court to start the fourth quarter are Curry, Edwards, Tatum, James and Davis.
Australia managed to complete a streak of 14 wins and two draws in a row thanks to several consecutive possessions with the USA committing a passing error. The team’s number of errors reached 12 with three minutes left in the third quarter.
The United States continues to play with two five-man lineups throughout the game: Curry, Edwards, Tatum, James and Embiid; and Holiday, Booker, Haliburton, Davis and Adebayo.
White, who joined the US team late, has yet to play in the game as the third quarter draws to a close with the US leading Australia 67-53.
The USA leads the Boomers 53-37 after 20 minutes of play at Etihad Arena.
The U.S. starting midfielder broke away from the top of the court and hit a three-pointer, adding to the U.S. team’s big lead and continuing their success from beyond the arc.
After seven minutes of the second quarter, the USA players have made 11/11 from the free throw line. The USA team leads 46-30.
Australia managed to cut the gap with the United States to seven points about halfway through the second quarter, but Curry managed to score a three-pointer to put the United States back on the scoreboard.
Curry, Edwards, Tatum, James and Embiid returned to the court with the USA team early in the second quarter.
The United States led 32-21 after the first 10 minutes of play.
Midway through the first quarter, Tyrese Haliburton, Bam Adebayo, Anthony Davis, Jrue Holiday and Devin Booker all entered the game.
Edwards led both teams with 11 points in the first five minutes of the game, including 3-of-3 three-point attempts and 4-of-4 field goals.
Three minutes into the first quarter, LeBron James and Anthony Edwards had each made 2/2 from three-point range.
