The Hungarian prime minister, along with Foreign Minister Peter Szyjardo, is set to hold talks on what analysts see as ways to end the war in Ukraine.
The visit to Beijing is the third unexpected move by Orban, who has described his trips as a “peace mission”. The initiative is linked to Hungary’s six-month rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union. Earlier, Orban visited Kiev and Moscow, and this latest visit was met with criticism from other EU countries.

Balas Orbán, head of the Prime Minister’s Political Cabinet, on Sunday expressed Hungary’s ambitions to open communication channels between Russia and Ukraine.
As he noted, the Prime Minister considers it his duty to get the EU to take serious action regarding the war in Ukraine. – The recession and repeated slogans do not seem to lead anywhere – he said, although he knows that he has no mandate to act as an EU representative.
