Marshal Elżbieta Witek, in her speech during the Congress of “Gazeta Polska” clubs, recalled that in 2015 the EU tried to impose illegal immigrants in Poland, “Angela Merkel welcomed Germany with broad shoulders, and then she could not deal with them”. That’s a million people. It wants to distribute them around the EU on a mandatory relocation basis. Our government – the government of then Prime Minister Beata Siddow – said a firm “No”. We disagree, and in 2018 the EU said “the poles were right, the Union’s external borders should be protected and help where conflict breaks out”. We continue to help, as the Poles do to this day. We build hospitals there, we send food there, we have our priests and nuns. These students study with us. We prepare engineers and doctors so that they can return to their countries – after the war – to rebuild their country – he noted.
– The EU agreed with us and we breathed a sigh of relief. And what turns out? The topic of forced displacement comes back and it is called “forced unity”. There is no such thing. Solidarity comes from the heart and the desire to help others. If such a duty of unity is imposed, it is coercion, not unity. We do not agree with that, because security is at the heart of our plan, apart from the family. That is why we will not agree to any coercion, because we have already accepted many millions of genuine refugees. We also have Belarusian refugees – let’s remember that – and anyone who passes through the right gate at the border seeking political asylum, not illegally, wants to stay in our country, and that person wants to work in it. If he is really persecuted, take refuge, if he leaves the war, he can stay with us. But those who come here do not want to stay in Poland. They definitely want to go to Germany, Sweden, Austria, because there is a big “community” there. They don’t want to work, they want to get paid. Why should we suffer for the mistakes of other countries? Migration policy is an internal policy of each EU country and we will conduct it in our own way
Elżbieta Witek pointed out that security is “a very important pillar today”. – Security in broad sense. It is external security related to border security, but also job security, security of life chances, health security and environmental security. We are trying to take care of all this, but today when I meet my colleagues from other countries, or when I am at any international meeting, the first topic is Ukraine, help Ukraine, so that this war ends quickly with the victory of Ukraine. Possible. Why? Because if there is no peace there will be nothing. At the moment, he said, Ukrainians are fighting not only for their freedom – you certainly understand this very well – but they are fighting for the freedom and security of Poland and the Baltic countries, but for the freedom of all Europe.
