Take a look inside Redd's Restaurant in Rochester, New York, which was named one of USA TODAY's Best Restaurants of 2024.
Redd's, a Rochester restaurant, has received major awards from USA TODAY for its upscale New American cuisine.
Since opening in 2019, Redd's has become one of Rochester's favorite restaurants for special nights. This week it made national news: Along with 46 other restaurants, Redd's was named to USA TODAY's Restaurants of the Year 2024 list.
What makes RED stand out?
Richard Reddington worked in some of the best kitchens in the world before starting his restaurants Redd and Redd Wood in Napa Valley. Redd was awarded 7 Michelin stars from 2008 to 2014.
In 2019, he and business partner Dennis Wilmot opened a second version of Redd's in his native Rochester.
Since then, Reed's has become a favorite place for festive dinner parties. The menu, which changes seasonally, is globally inspired. Perennial standouts include lobster risotto with lemon confit and arugula and pork belly with apple purée and soy caramel.
But Redd's is also a great place to gather for drinks at the bar, which can be enjoyed with the finest pizza and wings in town.
The old brick building, once home to a horse-drawn ambulance company, is airy and comfortable, decorated in earthy tones and adorned with a mural evocative of the nearby Finger Lakes. The acoustics are optimized to have lively buzz, but you can still carry on the conversation. During the summer, the outdoor space surrounded by window boxes filled with plants is magical.
Unless you're visiting a bar, a reservation is a good idea.
What to order at RED
Wood-fired pizza. Try the wood-fired tomato pizza with garlic, oregano, chili flakes and no cheese. It's surprisingly delicious in its simplicity.
wings. Super crunchy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and topped with a sticky Thai chili that's just hot enough.
Seafood. Dishes change seasonally, but their varied takes on seafood are reliably good.
sweets. Save space because it is always sublime.
